West High School students have not only seen their peers grow this year, but also their school.
"This class had their senior year impacted by the modernization here," said Dr. Bill Bruce, principal. "The kids were wonderful about it. I think it's a classy group of kids for how they handled some very adverse situations this year."
Bruce said the 400 graduating seniors contributed to the campus modernization by donating an electronic message board. The senior gift will advertise campus events and be placed where students can view it.
"The suggestion was over by the gym," Bruce said."That way the students coming in from the parking lot could see it."
The 400 seniors graduated at 7 p.m. Friday in the Bakersfield Convention Center.
