More than 550 students will graduate Friday from Delano High School.

"It appears it will be the largest graduating class we've ever had," said Richard Smithey, associate principal.

The 7 p.m. ceremony will take place on campus at Gene Beck Stadium. Speeches will be provided by Mylene Ranches, valedictorian, Daniel Nastor, salutatorian, and Gary Girard, who was recently named most respected teacher at Delano High, Smithey said.

Smithey said Girard is retiring after 39 years instructing English at the school. He was also a cheerleading coach and newspaper adviser, Smithey said.
