Bakersfield Adult School doesn't have your typical graduation.

"It is different from high schools," said Principal Boyce R. Buzz Caffee. "Most of our clients have family. It's quite a moving experience to hear their stories of coming back to school and their stories of sacrifice."

About 300 students gathered at 7 p.m. Friday in Bakersfield High School's Harvey Auditorium. Caffee said that 412 graduated, but only 300 attended the ceremony.

"Many of them graduate in November or December and then move on," he said. "Others choose not to participate."
